Medications for Opioid Use Disorder
Our team of medical providers and licensed addiction counselors has the training and experience required to help individuals understand and overcome their addiction to opioids. The team helps each person achieve recovery utilizing an individualized approach to treatment based on an assessment of individual needs and strengths.
What is Medications for Opioid Use Disorder?
Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) uses medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat opioid use disorders. The medications that are used can ease symptoms associated with withdrawal, reduce craving and protect against accidental overdose. Medications for Opioid Use Disorder is an effective treatment that can help save lives and maintain recovery.
There are two ways to enter MOUD services at LCBHS. It can start with a simple call from the client or a referral from a health care provider. Services may also begin from a referral following a treatment needs assessment from an accredited substance use treatment provider. In either case, MOUD services are prioritized, and clients can often be seen on the same day they call or are referred.
Process
No matter how an individual enters services, they will receive an assessment to determine whether or not MOUD is appropriate and to help determine the correct level of care. If MOUD is the right option, staff will provide education about the different forms of MOUD and a plan for treatment will be developed. Initial drug screening as well as ongoing random drug testing is required.
Treatment includes:
- Education about addiction, recovery and co-occurring disorder
- Strategies to help with motivation and change
- Individualized behavioral strategies to prevent relapse
- The development of coping skills to deal with stress
- Family support
- Case management
